‘Tis the Season to Spend Your FSA Funds
We all know that medical expenses can add up, including preventative and restorative dentistry. That’s why it’s a good idea to enroll in a Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) to cover costs, both anticipated and unexpected.
Time is of the essence and ‘tis the season to spend your FSA funds ASAP. Unfortunately, many people overlook the opportunity to use their FSA funds on dental services and end up missing out.
Consider this Crown Dental’s PSA on why and how to use your FSA before the new year.
The 411 on Your FSA
Unlike a Health Savings Account (HSA), the funds in your FSA will not roll over into the new year. When you think of the money in your FSA, you should immediately make “use it or lose it” your mantra. Similar to a HSA, the funds in your FSA account can be used for all sorts of health care, along with certain health products.
For instance, you can use your FSA on items like baby sunscreen, hearing aid batteries, thermometers, and even larger-ticket products like wheelchairs and other mobility aids. Dental products are included, too, such as denture cream and cleaners. Check out the full FSA eligibility list here.
Many of our patients are unaware that their FSAs also cover routine and preventative dental services like dental cleanings and x-rays. Other procedures like dental implants may also be covered, provided they are a medical necessity and not exclusively for cosmetic reasons. If you have any questions about whether a particular service is eligible, consult the list or give us a call and we’ll help you determine how to schedule and pay for your appointment.
The year is winding down and while most of us will be glad to see 2020 come to an end, now is the perfect time to put any remaining FSA funds to good use. Given the fact that COVID-19 interrupted all of our schedules — and continues to do so — we know that many of our patients are overdue for their routine dental cleaning, which is covered by your FSA.
Give us a call and let us get you on the books before we close the book on this year!
